正如其他很多偉大的詩人，奧洛絲只想要有多點時間來寫作，不過寒冬飛龍的生活可常常會被打擾的。厄爾多姆的史詩是一部漫長精彩的歷史，但近年來僅存的龍學家們恐怕不像從前那樣多產，從最後一個偉大年代以來，只對古龍史詩添加了寥寥幾句。奧洛絲嘆道：「我們都忘了生命不只是獲得勝利和宰制敵人，也必須在生活中追尋創造力並用以表達。」她因而踏上研究之旅，四處蒐集能啟發靈感的書籍。然而她想投入的研究都被嚴重打岔，最後花在寫作的時間遠少於原本預期的。雖然她知道應該潛伏在巢中多寫幾句龍詩，卻發現自己捲入多場重大戰役並對上強大的敵人。她洗劫城堡、劫掠古圖書館……如果過程中剛好為自己增添更多榮耀，她就告訴自己那只是做研究時順手贏得的。事實是，雖然她的技能和力量在戰場上是傳說等級，但她為做學問而下的苦工很難稱得上有什麼學術成就。然而，她不滿足於只當一個英雄傳說中的主角，她也想要自己寫下一則傳說。
